I want to get starcraft for my computer but should I get the first one or the second one and why?

U can not install the expansion set Brood War without the first one i also tried this but u need the original.
hope this helped and u should get the first one anyway because the story line will help u figure out what is going on. And like the guy sed earlier buy the battle chest it comes with both games and a strategy guide for both by Prima (TM)

Starcraft ... the second one?
The original starcraft is a Real Time Stragedy game, where you control armies of terrans, zergs or protoss. There was an expansion pack released called the Brood Wars
Awesome game!
The only other game is based on the starcraft universe and that's called starcraft ghost, i think. That's a first person shooter isn't it?

The only other Starcraft games are Starcraft and its expansion, Brood War, which can be bought in a "Battle Chest" that comes with both games and strategy guides for both...

Why not get both? They are both very old games so they are cheap.
