As I figured, you've got a dead split. Old versus Young! Generation versus Generation. I understand it. However, "that argument" doesn't really answer the question, huh?

Just so you know where I am coming from, I am a 28 year old, well educated, music loving dude. When people ask me what my favorite kind of music is, I always tell them, "80's hair bands, the blues, classic rock, gangsta rap and old school country," and I'm not lying.

What do I think about todays music?

I think the media outlets that broadcast today's music to the public have become to "genre specific." Because of this, much of the great music that is coming out right now isn't getting distributed to the public. Thus, many people have a negative opinion of today's music, and rightfully so, because they just don't know that there is good stuff out there.

I could write a book of examples that justify my arguments. However, I will just leave you with this. As of today, the Eagles "Greatest Hits" album is the #1 selling album of all time. Obviously, in order to make that album, the Eagles had to have loads of hits over the years on the radio, right? Furthermore, in order to have the #1 selling album of all time, people of all cultures and age groups must like and buy their music. Plus, people must have heard the Eagles on the radio from day 1, and they must still be able to listen to them on the oldies station today, huh? Do we agree?

Having said all that, if the Eagles were to release their first album today, do you think it would get any radio play? Where you live, is there a regular radio station that even plays new rock music? I live in a major market, and we have stations that play new heavy stuff, pop stuff, hip hop stuff and country stuff, but, if the music doesn't fall squarely in to one of those genre's, it doesn't get played. Honestly, I think if the Eagles came out today, their only hope would be to get on the country stations.

Who knows what to think of today's music? No matter how you look at it, this generation is getting a raw deal, because there is alot of great stuff out there.

Stay Up Playas!

i think music peaked from 1998-2002 for what i like. its certainly lost its meaning to me a little, but i still like the new albums coming out. My favorite album is New Found Glory self titled that came out in 2000. i dunno, im only 18 so i dont know a whole lot before 2000. Rap was definately better back in the 90s. it was funny to read about all the controversy over the lyrics in court about every rapper especially eminem. punk/pop/alternative rock is the only way to go and it always will be good.

Not much. The only "modern" band I buy stuff by is Garbage. Other than that, I tune into the college stations once in awhile to keep up, but no bands have really grabbed me... but I still hold out hope. I like Jet, but not enought yet to buy their stuff. My Chemical Romance is sorta interesting.

I hate rap. It become degrading to woman. All it is about is sex and having 'bling'. Music today, such as rock is not that bad, but it's not the best.
