She fights her bottle by pushing it out with her tounge and pushing it away with her hands and crying. She does this after drinking only 2 oz. In previous weeks she was drinking about 4-5 oz. at every feeding. What would have caused this change in her feeding habits? Maybe she isn't having a growth spurt, so she doesn't need to eat so much? Or a food allergy? I'm calling th doc tomorrow, but i'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas. Thanks!

She doesn't have thrush, or a stuffy nose....she's been doing this for a few days now. At first I thought it was gas...but she always gives a big burp(several times) during feedings, so it's not that either. it could possibly be that she is in a stage where she isn't needing as much formula, or that she is teething. thanks to everyone who has answered this post!

I had the same problem. My baby went for 4-6 oz down to 2oz at every feed and I was worried. Now I am actually the only person who can feed her..not her dad not her grandma..because I have the mommas touch. If she wants to kind of fight it off at two ounces I hold the bottle firm and if she doesnt spit it out I know shes just getting fussy but if I hold it firm and coax her by saying "comon drink honey I want you to drink" she will finish the 4 oz bottle. I dont take her off to burp at 2oz because she may not want the bottle again for another half an hour.

Another suggestion is feeding her more often. Instead of feeding her every 3-4 hours feed her every 2. That is more of a pain but at least shes getting her food.

If she doesnt seem hungry has enough wet and dirty diapers in the day and isnt deyhidrated then there probably isnt to much to worry about.

Most likely she is teething. My 7 month old got her first 2 teeth at the same time when she was 3 months. She did not want to have her bottle at all. She is still like that when her teeth bother her. Dont worry to much becuase if she is hungry she will eat. She is just in too much pain and could be gassy as well. Give her some Infant tylonal and baby oragel, or for the gas give her Gripe water. That will help. For teething a cold cloth to suck on or a teether or a soother to chew on will help her. Just comfort her while she is in pain. Good Luck!!

She is most likely getting more air with the particular bottle or formula that you are using now. The extra air intake would make her feel more full sooner, although she is not drinking as much. You may want to look into changing the type of nipple that you are using, or maybe even the formula. Also, when she pushes the bottle away and begins to cry make sure that you burp her to get that gas out of her right away. She should feel better after burping. -Janet

She may be teething. I know its early but my son starting teething around that time and finally broke his two bottom teeth about a month later. My doc said they actually start teething about a month before you ever see a tooth so she may have sore gums and just not feel good. My son was drooling all over the place and was eating alot less. He has finally at five months started eating a decent amount again.

I would rub your fingers in her mouth, feel for teeth. She is most likely teething. I would give her some pain meds. Also, it might help if you give her cold formula, that will also help with the pain. If you have the book "what to expect the first year" look on page 223, it has a whole section on teething. And crying and not wanting to eat is a big sign of teething. Good luck.

Everyone's answers talk about teething, which could very well be. Could she be starting to be particular about her milk temperature ? Or could it be that the flow of the nipple is too slow for her and she's getting frustrated-try moving up a "size" ? She may just not be very hungry. Hope it passes soon.

I wouldn't push the bottle on her if she was pushing it away. She is probably just not very hungry. As long as she is eating somewhat, she will be okay. In no time, I am sure she will be eating a lot more again.

Maybe her teeth are starting to come a bit. Give a frozen teething ring then try again. (Or put formula on a washcloth and freeze it)

The best thing to do is just monitor wet diapers, enough wet diapers means she is fine.

Sounds like a stuffy nose/ear ache. Babies tend to like to breathe and for some reason when their little noses get stuffed up the only way they CAN breathe is through their mouths. That's probably WHY she is fighting the bottle she is trying to breathe!

Babies go through phases and they don't always need the same amount of food. It could also be early teething pain. I wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as she is peeing and pooping just as much as she was before.
