Does the rule of thumb for rechargable batteries apply to the ipod as well? should i let the battery completely run out before recharging in order to prevent building a memory inside the battery?

Better whenever you don't use it,like before sleep.
But for first time only you need to charge at least 18 hour before you use it.(Brand new)

no, but u only get 400 charges before you have to replace the battery. so i would be cautious, i did that before i went on vacataion, because I didn't have a travel charger. it will last about 15 min. after the battery signal turns red.

The shuffle comes with a equipped-in connection that enables it to recharge whilst it is plugged right into a ps2 port on your laptop. i think Apple additionally sells kit for charging it at as quickly as from an electric outlet (they sell such kit for the iPods)

I once asked the people at the apple store why my battery life was always runnin out so quick..and they said because i was charging it too much..so he recommended to only charge it at night..since i listened to mine all day..so yea..i charged it at night..then soon as i woke up..took it off the charger..the battery lasted longer too

when it's run all the way out. if you charge it too often it will ruin the battery and it wont stay charged for as long as it should

I think the first time you use it, you should charge it all the way, then let it run all the way down, then charge it all the way, to sort of "prime it". After that, go crazy.

it might be safer to let it die out before charging at least in the beginning
