No it's not legit.

After you wire the money, the counterfeit check will be returned and you will be responsible for paying back all the money to the bank. It's a very common scam.

Call the issuing bank. If you got it in the mail and you were not expecting it.then most likely its not its probably fraudulent or some kind of scam. Many times if you cash a check you automatically get enrolled into some club for life.

Find out who the bank is. Call them give the the numbers on the bottom of the check and verify it. then ask them if there is enough money to cover the amount of the check.

You can call the bank that it is written on, use yahoo yellow pages for the number and give them the account number and they are allowed to tell you if there sufficient funds to cash the check.
