Water ways are the arteries of every civilisation.All great cities are built on the banks of a river.The river was the source of life in all it;s facets For defence,commerce,hygene not to mention food and potable drinking water.The Tigris,Euphrates and the Nile served exactly this purpose

The Euphrates and the Tigris were important rivers for purposes of trade and travel in ancient times. And now like all bodies of water all rivers are important for many ecosystems in water and on land.

Because they provide water for the population who live along them , water for agriculture and a means of transport. Without the Nile there would have been no Egypt.

Source of water - for drinking, washing, livestock, agriculture
Source of transportation - boats, rafts, etc
Source of food - fish, shellfish, etc

Umm, let's see, drinking water, washing water, transportation, irrigation for crops and farm animals, natural barriers, natural borders, provide food (fish, shellfish, etc.), provide mud for making building bricks. Not really all THAT important lol.
