Doesnt power on....The video is bad even when you have stuck in a already working card from a different computer. If it powers on something goes crappy. Like one minute the CD Drive is working then the next time its not and then sometimes all the drives are working (floppy CD and HDD) then another none of them work.

Its nothing rare about it. I refurbish computers on a daily basis. Yes most of the problems are power supply related but motherboard issues are common. Newer computers you shouldnt run in to many motherboard problems but older ones you will.

Motherboards rarely fail... Their problems usually are apparent out of the box. Since most of the devices on a motherboard are interconnected a faulty motherboard usually means nothing works. Motherboards can be damaged physically, or by excess electricity from a power surge.

Determine if the problem is your motherboard by removing all extra card, devices etc connected to the computer or motherboard. Boot with the bare essentials, cpu, memory, videocard and see if your problem disappears.

If nothing is working, ie no fans etc your problem is most likely a power supply issue.

The most common one is, your computer stops working, because it overheated or it had a short circuit.
