Our plumber suggested putting in a sewer line pump in the basement floor to force sewage through a low spot in our residential line to reach the main line. The cost is about $6000 less than digging up the yard & he assures us it will do the job. Does anyone have experience with this kind of pump...effective, reliable, etc.?

The pump is normally designed for a bathroom that is lower than the main sewer line.like in a basement.....If your line has a low spot then a number of things may be wrong. You could have a break in the line or the line is being forced down by tree roots.....YOu should have the line dug up and repaired or possibly replaced, for the low spot in the line will only get worse! I dont know where you live and how long your sewer line is but I could probably replace your whole line for less than 6000 bucks! Get a second opinion!

the only pump I know for a sewer line is one that if the sewer line in the basement was lower than the main line in the house then you could pump it up to the main line and out. If the pipe is lower in a spot in the line this tells you that you have a break in the line or roots have gotten in the joint and opened it up. Forceing water throught this spot will only make the problem WORST in the long run. Some plumbers have a camera that they can run down the line and you can see for yourself what the problem/s is.Most of the time this is not the only spot in the line that needs attention. I would do this first. sooner or later you are going to have to replace the sewer line ----------- trust me.................

best to do it right the first time as a pump will only break down in time
