I'm a lakers fan and love Kobe, but I wouldn't go as far to say that Kobe is the greatest basketball player ever. I'll say that he's the best in the league right now. What has made him so great!! First of all, his 3 championship rings help a lot!! Not only his achievements however, he has shown the ability to improve his game every single year. He just keeps getting better and better. Another major factor is his outstanding ability to be able to score points. Mr. 81 has shown at times that he can carry his team. Plus as you mentioned, his work ethic, competitiveness, and also his killer instinct. Also, his clutch performances and being able to make the big plays at the right times. He's isn't playing too well right now b/c of his surgery, but wait till he gets back to his normal self.

well... the point is hes not. kobe might score a lotve points and dominate people with his skills but the point is hes far from the greatest. lets start by comparing lebron to kobe in their rookie seasons. kobe averaged 7.6 PPG. lebron averaged 20.9. kobe averaged 1.3 assists. lebron averaged 5.9. kobe averaged 1.9 rebounds per game. lebron averaged 5.5. all massive differences. and it keeps going like that year after year. if you compare kobes second or third or fourth seasons to lebron, lebron will destroy kobe. the fact is kobe might be good now and even now i believe lebron is better, but lebron will become a far better player than kobe because he is still young and not even close to his prime. not to mention the lakers didnt win the championship in 2004 when they had the ultimate team with shaq, payton, and karl malone. all nba heavy weights

If Kobe Bryant is the best player ever, that means Michael Jordan must have changed his name to Kobe Bryant.

Off the court troubles, ball hogging, not helping his team but only himslef, driving his teamates out of town...
Talent wise and championships, yes he is great, but it takes a little more than that to be even considered the best.

Uh... no. I cannot get past his behavior in Colorado - that is far more important than basketball - and a big part of being great.
He also crybabied Shaq out of town which has cost championships.

He's not. If he could rape the basket like he did girls in colorado then he would be the greatest player ever.
