One computer on my network has been playing a lot of games on line. Can this be why my internet is so slow? Before it has always been fine, my cable modem is a few years old.

It might be the problem cause the online game might take lot of available bandwidth.
You can try turnning off all game application. Reset your modem by turning off and on and try to see if there is improvement

Try unplugging the cable modem (and router if you have one). Leave unplugged for 2mins.
Then go to:
http://www.dslreports.com/stest/0
Run their speed test... will suggest tweaks for speeding up internet.

that might be true but idk much but call ur cable provider and c wat they can do
