Sounds like you have insulin resistance, which is the underlying cause of PCOS. Although, some women "pass" the test, they still seem to respond positively to treating the insulin resistance. The best way to treat this is with an insulin sensitizing drug, such as metformin, combined with a good diet and exercise. I highly recommend visiting www.ivillage.com. There is a great message board there where you can ask all your PCOS questions.

High insulin levels are a precursor to Diabetes, which is something that PCOS can lead to you having. It might mean you need to be on some form of medication to control the insulin levels you have, and that's probably what the doctor will be discussing with you in the follow up. Probably diet and exercise changes, too. High insulin is known to be associated with PCOS.

Don't be too stressed out.... high insulin levels are something that's treatable. It sounds like your doctor caught this early before you developed diabetes and you can do preventative treatments now so you don't end up having to do insulin injections.

if your insulin levels are high, she is probably going to suggest you be treated further to rule out diabetes.
