Who consider Americans as English? A little more education you be needing. Americans, mostly are citizens of the United States, and just because the English language happens to be the main language does not in any why they are considered English.

I have never thought that Americans are consider English. If they are, it might be because the English were the most successful at colonizing North America. I think that it also could be because English is the Language of the United States.

By whom?

Do you mean, why are Americans considered English-speaking?

Or have you encountered a lot of people that confuse Americans with people from England?

Maybe because some of us NORTH Americans have most of our ancestors coming from England, Scotland, or Ireland. They came to Canada and settled here. And some of us still try to speak ENGLISH even though the television, etc. keeps trying to change how we speak and write and spell it!!

And why do USA Americans still claim they speak ENGLISH, etc. Since they claim such, maybe that is why others consider them as such. Though likely many may think they are part of Northern Mexico.

And, so SOUTH Americans be considered as "English". I doubt it!! And why do so many in the USA consider they are the only AMERICANS?

thus meaning any true "american" would have to be english

any native and americans would not be considered in this because still, today they are not called american's, but "native american's"

You know the Amish still refer to all outsiders as the English? That should be a clue how close historically we are to the time when we were British subjects.

Its the Anglo thing, we speak a form of the English language.

If you say "fetch the parcel" people would look at you strange though.

I first heard Brit English in the form of Monty Python. For all my teenage years anyone speaking British was hilariously funny to me cuz all I could think of was Monty Python.
