Everyone so far has given you some really good stuff as far as songs to start off with. Alot of them are actually good training songs. You might want to look into a little Bluegrass and Country music. Much of that stuff is good training material too though a little boring but they mainly use alot of 1-4-5's; the 1st, 4th, and 5th chord of a scale eg; in the key of C that's the C, F, and G(7) chords. Different songs use them in various orders and best yet, you can harmonize many songs in major keys with those 3 chords alone!

Acoustic or electric?

Here are some good acoustic

Blackbird - Paul Mccartney
Julia - John Lennon
Yesterday - Paul Mccartney
Time of your life - Green Day

Electric

Espionage - Green Day
Nothing else Matters - Metallica

To whoever said Seize the Day
A7X has some very good guitarists, that song might sound easy, but it makes me pay attention and I have played for 7 years, it has very difficult chord changes in the harmony part.

Seven Nation Army has to be the coolest-sounding insanely-easy song to play on guitar.

If you like AFI, you should try The Leaving Song, it's mostly just chords. you could also try Kiss and Control, I taught it to myself, and i just started playing guitar.

Here are the tabs for them and Prelude 12/21
