Having a lot of older, retirement aged people in a society is a very bad thing. The elderly use enormous amounts of resources, while contributing very little, if anything. Yes, they probably did contribute in the past, but now???
In towns with a high average age (i.e., lots of old people), schools usually suck, as well as almost every community project such as parks, because old people will not vote for anything that might benefit anyone other than old people.
The cost of Health care would go thru the roof. Most old people are hypochondriacs (sp?). There would be jobs available, I would suppose...

We "old folks" worked for low wages, bad conditions in sickness and in health to, protected and made the United States of America what it is today!! Without the "old folks" that once were young and energetic youngsters, YOU would be now living in a country somewhat like Africa......with nothing and nothing to look forward to.
Don't EVER forget that you are here ONLY because some "old person" created you, fed you, give you medical attention, taught you most of what you know. Without the "old folks" you would have nothing, be nothing and not know any better or the difference.
There is some VERY shallow statements made about the "old folks" in the answers. WE took care of you....and you DON'T want to take care of us, nor be respectful???????????? Shame on you!!! Would you EVER believe, or can you comprehend, that you will turn around a couple of times and YOU will be an "old person"? Then the "youngsters", at that time will be able to tell you how bad you are because you are old. The "old folks" have left you youngsters with a wonderful America.....what will you leave for the youngsters coming on behind you??????
What goes around comes around and you WILL be old one day. There is only one alternative....but of course the alternative may be compatible with the way some young people think, now days.
Good luck America. Pops
TheWholee...what ever that is......

I hate to tell you this, but in 2011 the first of the baby boomers will be turning 65. There are literally MILLIONS of them. They will be eligible for Medicare and Social Security, which no one is ready for. And health care jobs will not be abundant, unless you want to work for free because THERE WILL BE NO MONEY TO PAY THE BILL. It will be the first time in history that elderly people will outnumber the working folks. Sleep well tonight.

It would drive a country bankrupt. Which might happen in Europe and Japan.
You can't have more people 65 and older and retired requiring expensive medical attention, and few young workers. Won't work.

Important industries to work in would be health care
housing, once they pass on there will be extra house pushing house price down
jobs, with automation it will not make much difference
people will alway buy the neet stuff and they young will always want the lastest stuff.

As far as job opportunities, there will be plenty of health care related jobs. It is up to the younger people to do what they have to do to position themselves so they can take advantage.
