It may be partly because your parents are being stubborn (I know the feeling). but I think another bit may be that, based on your social history, you haven't given them a legitimate reason to get you a phone. Yes, you hang out a lot with your friends, but have you ever experienced any conflict serious enough to concern them during those times?
Hey, it might be that you're a really responsible kid that your parents don't have a reason to fret about, so on some level that's a plus. But, when it comes to being left out of the whole my-friends-have-cell phones loop, I understand your frustration. The harsh but honest truth is that if your parents aren't going to dish out the money for a new cell phone and plan if the main concern is your social status rather than your actual safety. Sorry about that.

Yeah I know how that feels...90% of your friends have a cell phone and you don't. And it sounds like you need one. They're prolly just afraid of you running the bill really high.
But since you babysit, I assume you get paid. So here's the thing. Obviously you're not old enough for a contract, otherwise you'd just go ahead and get it regardless of what your folks say. So, go to CIngular's website (or any other wireless serivce provider you have in mind; I just think Cingular's the best) and study all of their Pay As You Go plans. Once you've found the one you want, catch your parents in a good mood and patiently describe to them the plan, the cost, the phone cost and features...etc. And tell them you'd pay for everything yourself, since you have a job. I mean, come on, if you've got a job, you NEED a cell phone.
Go ahead and try it out, see if it works (it usually does!) Good luck! :-)

Ask and tell your mom the following:
Babysitting:
1)What happens if someone tries to break into the house and its just me and the baby so we go hide. I would want to call the cops. But i can't run to the house phone, so i could carry a cell phone easily in my pocket.
Mall: What happens if im standing outside with one of my friends waiting for you and there is a strange man? The man might try to grab us and then do bad things to us. And if we run a way i would call you while im running, well the cops first then you.
This is what i did to get a phone, you have learned from a master.

I think it is a good idea for you to get a cell phone for safety reasons. But your mom probably doesn't want you to be on the phone all the time. You could compromise. You could purchase a cell phone and only use it when it is a necessity. If you do it this way you could probably purchase minutes cheaper than paying a monthly bill.

If your mom won't let you have a cell phone, it must mean that you're under 16 years of age. Good for you mom! You don't need a cell phone. You want one, but you don't need it. You're making the excuse that it's for your safety just so you can have it and feel part of the group of kids who already have them. If you were my daughter, I wouldn't let you have one either.

For me, if you were my child, you save up the money, find a pay as you go cellphone, buy your own minutes I would let you get your own cellphone. When you use up your minutes, the phone doesnt work. You would buy your own minutes and be responsible. If the minutes ran out you could still call 911 in an emergency. And don't ask me for money to buy minutes, it's your responsibility.
