How does society today reflect the values of the Midas myth?

from get rich quick to almost everything about materialism. 9 10ths about the world today is about personal gain, even to the detriment of our own lives, take GB, and america's political position on global warming for example (& i don't mean general public opinion so don't get all high & mighty with your thumbs if you please!) take any number of issues even fitness, food, shopping, marketing everything is me, me, me, profit, profit, profit best, best, best!
it all screams out greed. we idolyse the riddiculous lifestyles of the people who did get rich who do seem to have this mydas touch: people like missy elliott & the rest, footballers, almost everyone else who shows off their show homes on programes like mtv cribs: it's all about having too much these days and i'm afraid we'll end up very much like mydas himself, the world will start rejecting us bit by bit, starting with it's formerly generous and bountiful resources and spreading quickly to other things...

Through the greedy pursuit of gold! People wanting more and more of everything, till then end up alone just counting out they're gold pieces ( money ).
