I have bacterial vaginosis as diagnosed by my doctor. It has reccured twice and all three times I have recieved Metronidazole 500 mg bid for 7 days. I am woundering because on the net I see putting yogurt in your vagina helps? I am wondering if anyone has done this, and how to tell if it is a live culture of yogurt. How would one clean up after this? I really dont want to put anything in my vagina that might make the infection worse. please help!

Okay so consider the fact that i am not an uneducated idiot and this is a seriouse question wanting only seriouse answers. Both my doctor and this website said it might be okay to use yogurt. I want advice from somone educated not some 13 year old female who thinks because she has had sex she is smart.

If it's a yeast infection plain/unflavored yogurt, iserted like the creams you buy over the counter. Do it before you go to bed so it stays in longer. Wear a pad to catch what doesn't stay in, and take a shower in the morning. You can also rub small amounts on itchy spots, just like the creams.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I would eat yogurt, drink the acidolpholus (sp?) milk and consider using macrobiotics to help restore the natural "beneficial" bacteria in your system. Work from the "inside out" instead of "outside in". You need to be diligent though; you would need to eat this stuff everyday for a few weeks to see if it makes a difference. Good luck!

i don't think yogurt would help it because of the sugar content. i would ask your doctor for a special cream instead of pills, you know something to soothe the irritation.

You don't put it in your vagina, you eat it. It should say live live and active cultures o the container, and then list the cultures. I know stonyfeild farms has them, and I think dannon does too.

You're on the wrong stuff!!! Make your physician CULTURE IT. You don't have a yeast infection, you have a bacterial infection (yeast is a fungus and metronidazole treats yeast, NOT bacteria).
