It's hard to say.
I say yes, but to a certain extent. Many artists use the excuse "well if you don't like my lyrics, don't listen to them" but with a generation like ours, new and popular music and entertainment is basically the only thing that children rely on. These artists may not wish to believe it, or maybe some of them do, they're just enjoying the fame and the control.. but they have responsibilities as role models as to how to send messages to young people. Sure, there's alot of people out there who babble on about how they're offended by some of these artists who talk about degrading women and using drugs and so forth, and the artists have the right to defend themselves by arguing that choice of music taste is free will. BUT what happens when an 11 year old girl is attracted to 50 cent, or an 8 year old boy thinks he looks cool on tv so they buy an album.. These artists know that they're having a major impact on children and young teens, they just choose to ignore it.

Ummm yes. That is why i go and buy the explicit lyric version only. It's not the same without it. It's censorship, plain and simple. I think it's ridiculous that everyone tries to control what everyone else does or listens to. I refuse to buy my music at Wal-mart for that reason.

I think that art of any kind should not be censored. If the artist hasn't got enough class or taste to edit what he says, let him say it. He will find the class of person who enjoys that sort of thing.

Yes! Come to think of it, I don't think I have a song on my iPod WITHOUT an "inappropriate" lyric in it...
