When I played football I was really slow. During one summer I some exercises that took over a second off my 40yrd dash.
Run 10 40 yard dashes foreword
Run 10 40 yards dashes backwards
Run sprints down hill.
The last one did a lot of good.
Do this at least 4 imes a week.
These suggestions may sound silly but I promise they worked for me.

Boy this is a tough one, as so many strong arms have come through the league but done nothing. Elway, Cutler, Favre...all those guys have cannons for arms, but so do guys like Kyle Boller who didn't really pan out. I'd say probably the strongest arm in football would be Jeff George though. Even now in his 40's the guy just throws a beautiful pass...too bad he was a pompous *** in his younger years and as a result has pretty much been black balled from the league.

i was always slow too, you need to work on flexibility in the leg groups so that you can lengthen your stride, start doing squats and leg thrusts and all the leg building exercises, so that when you have a longer stride, you have the power to cover the maximum amount of distance (less strides=faster due to less energy loss) work on footwork as you will undoubtably be working on soon for high school, this will help far as accleration to get to a maximum speed.
now with all this said, there are limits to what some people can have far as natural gifted speed. for instance i never couldve been a 4.4 guy because my hips didnt work like that. however you said 5.9 you need to get it down to about 4.9 or 4.6- i cant remember what big ben ran but its slow--- if you are slow sprinting, there are other things that will make you elusive, such as quick decisions, quick feet and strong core that can withstand blows.
dont worry- youll be fine... just gotta work at it

dont listen to that idiot who answered first.......speed does have a big part in genetics but saying that you wont get faster is a bunch of bull especially since your in middle school and still young
im no expert on speed....something i need to do more research on myself to improve my game but there are plenty of articles on plyometrics and getting faster at sprinting.....i am assuming you do mean running speed and not your throwing speed.....please correct me if im wrong but you are talking about your 40 yard dash right?
so do plyometric drills that are listed on the internet.....i wish i could give you more help or a link but im still trying to figure out myself.....i just wanted to answer because the first persons answer was crap

I run a 4.4 now and I was in your boat going into 8th grade, running a 5.5, but the best things you can do are run around the block a couple times per week, do ladder drills http://www.power-systems.com/News/03_30_06.aspx (if you don't know what that is), and run uphill. I had a friend help me so you don't slack off when you don't know it. But IT WILL work.

You don't get faster, you get elusive. Work on your lower body strength that way you will be able to break arm tackles and such. You will not gain speed but you will gain the ability to not be tackled on the first hit.

Years ago we used sprints but now strength training seems to be the thing. Hit the weights but do it with a trainer.

train with ankle weights. then when you take them off, your muscles will be stronger which will enable you to run faster.
