I am a student focusing on Enterprise programming. There is a focus on VB, J#, C# and oracle for some reason. I'm just trying to figure out which languages would ensure steady work or should I make an effort to be a jack of all trades...er languages.

One survey has the top 5 programming languages as:

C#
Java
VB
C++
Javascript

I would say that in an Enterprise, SQL would be called by all of the above in most apps.

C# and Java are the two big enterprise languages these days because everything is supposed to be "web enabled" and "multiplatform."

However, REAL programmers should know C, C++, and at least 2 Assembly languages, so that you understand WHY C# and Java are so popular.

It relies upon on what you prefer to do! utility Engineering is to grow to be a programmer / utility developer systems and Networking is to grow to be a server or community administrator what's it you prefer to be/do ?
