It was a chestnut tree which could be seen from the attic window. Anne often went into the attic as it was the only window she could look out into the outside without being seen by outsiders. Through this window she would see the chestnut tree, blue sky and birds flying this was her only link to the outside world as she could not venture outside while in hiding

i haven't read it but i read the play and i think that probably in peter's room he had a window and there was probably a tree out there it was the only thing that connected her to the outside world




i don't know but i think that's a pretty good guess
