Recently I've had major writers block. I have a lot of built up feelings, but I can't get the feelings out on the instrument I play. Also, lately I've been feeling that the songs I do write song too much like the songs from my favorite bands. I don't want to write the same song every artist has written. I want to be original.

Nevermind that, songwriters - what do you do when you're on an off day? What do you recomend to those stuck in a rut?

k. going out for a walk at night isn't going to do diddly poop so don't listen to the people who wrote crap like that. If it's guitar you're talking about.. try out different timing patterns and rythms.. try writing in a different scale. If you have a tune in your head, don't try to copy it out, you'll get frusterated and single-minded. Just relax, have a glass of water and a smoke if you smoke, whatever relaxes you, and just try out different things. Attempt to work with scales or time signatures that you've never worked with before. Most musicians who have writer's block have it because they're fixed on a certain idea, they're stuck in a box. Think outside that box. If that doesn't work, take a break and play something you ARE familiar with, preferably something else you've written. Now go back to writing.
Keep in mind, always try new things.

Well, I relax. Some suggestions have already been made... eh hem, get high guy... but you can do anything. Go for a drive, walk, boat float to a peaceful place. Get comfortable and let it flow. my favorite is to be alone by or on water, a little drink or.... and let it flow. Even the type of pen and paper I use are important. Just get in a thoughtful mood and write gibberish. Eventually something will be good. Oh, and change up your listening. Get out of the LISTENING rut and the writing will have new inspiration.

I get high, but don't do that.

As for the unoriginal thing, that is a think many artists struggle with.

Work out chord inversions and slash chords into your songs, used sparingly and correctly they can have a very pleasant effect on the ears.

C Chord -C E G
Instead of playing C as the bass not play a 2nd inversion with E in the bass or 3rd with the G. Slash chords are where you add another note not in the chord as the bass note on the guitar or piano, but don't get too crazy with these, they are hard to make sound good, but a lot of the best artists use them.

unless song writing is ur ob its fine to have days where u dont write songs. I tend to think that having days off can be good so ur emotions get built up and so when u finally vent them you come out with 1 deeper song compaired to 2-3 songs that are just ok. Listen to other types of music that will help u to get different ideas so u dont end up writing like ur fav band and just relax and let it flow!

On an off day, I stop. I go out and do something completely different, something totally unrelated to music. You've got to get your mind off writing of a song. Sometimes if you think too hard about needing to write, you can't articulate how you feel. Once you've gotten your mind off of writing, what you feel will come to you. I promise.

Just take a step back from it for minute. Think about the things that matter to you, simple as they may be. Don't pressure yourself into writing a song either, write because you enjoy it.
Just relax a little bit and the flow will come back to you.

If I heard what it appeared like then according to risk i ought to respond to this greater desirable, even though it seems fairly good, and that i think of i could hear to it on activities... it form of feels somewhat short and could purely be like a one million:30 and maximum songs are approximately 2:00-4:00 minutes long... even though plainly like it can be a competent music... wish I helped...

i go for a walk at night, listening to a playlist of some songs that make me dance and let me forget about things.
i feel a lot better and creative after that.

if you want, i'll send you the playlist in a message, its only about 35-ish minutes long. hope this helps, and good luck!

Dont seek inspiration, let inspiration come to you...

In other words, only write when you have something to write about....I've gone on dry spells for weeks, and have written a couple in a day, it all depends.

^^and quote isn't mine lol

If you get stuck stop! I have had so many things going through my head recently I just keep getting stuck. If I get stuck i just stop thinking about it, but i always keep my paper and pen handy just in case. Stop thinking about it, it will just come to you.
