Is there any way to know (other than the obvious physical exam) if you are starting to efface or dilate? I am only 33 weeks, but I feel like mabye the baby has dropped. I don't look different, I just feel like it's easier to breathe BUT she's right on my bladder and pelvis, creating a ton of pressure there. I also feel little twinges now. As of last week she hadn't dropped but she was in position, head down and everything. I don't want to worry, but I'm wondering if anyone who has gone through this could feel any physical symptoms letting them know if they were close to that point.

You could feel your cervix.. is it soft? Is it open at the end at all?

I would suggest to get her off your bladder like that is to do an easy exercise- get on your hands and knees and arch your back like a cat, then release. Do this like 20 times or so and it should position the baby better. I can't tell you what a lifesaver this was for me- and so simple!

This is normal. Unless you do the physical exam with the OBGYN there's no way to tell. The baby is preparing 'cause it only has about a month left. I started to dilate and efface (dr checked) at about 34 wks.

They can drop weeks before you go into labor. Trust me when you go into labor there will be no question. I had braxton and hicks and I kept thinking is this it? is this it?

Yea, when true labor came on...there was no question. All I can say is take the epidural. We were living on a remote island in the Pacific and there were no drugs - I was trying to bribe anyone for just a little bit.

Good luck.

i am 36 weeks pregnant, and it sounds like your baby has droped. i thought mine had dropped about a month ago, but he hadnt. i am for sure now that he has. it gets harder to walk around once they drop b/c of the increase of pressure on your pelvis.
