Please do not do this at home. It needs to be sterile, and even then you are risking infection. You know how easy it is to contaminate sterile gloves? Extremely. They make you re-do this course more than any other in nursing school. Also a professional can give you the care tips that you need, and check it out again for free if anything happens, not to mention getting the proper placement and doing it so that it will hurt less. This is very risky. Never think of doing this with your tongue. The placement there is very important, as you could bleed to death or lose part of your tongue if you get it wrong.

It is NOT safe to do at home! You will not have the tools or sterility you will need to get the job done. If you use regular household items to pierce yourself, you can get a horrible infection that can become really serious and get into your bloodstream.
Please make the time to take a road trip to a nearby town that DOES have the equipment to do this in a clean and safe manner. Make sure to look at the place thoroughly and see that the piercers use new gloves and new needles wrapped in sterile plastic for every piercing.

I suspect this will be the typical answer - please have it done by a professional.

It is important to use disinfectant and surgical stainless steel or the equivalent to reduce or prevent the chance of infection.

In theory a large ring or bar of surgical steel (long NOT thick...) could be used if sterilized...

Unless you can acquire those (and a local anesthetic) - it goes back to using a professional. Check around your area for a reputable tattoo/piercing establishment - not everyone uses safe materials.

And unless you're in an unusually remote area - there's a very good chance that there's someone around with the proper tools.

I had a friend in highschool that just numbed the area slightly with ice, and did it with a large saftey pin, so that she could leave the pin in until it healed. She also used this same method to peirce her eyebrows and the piece of skin under her tongue... I really wouldn't recomend it though. Not having it done professionally can greatly increase your chance of infection or scarring. I feel it would be best to go a little bit out of the way to get it done safely by a licensed professional. :)

go to a pro peircer. You can do almost anything at home, but if you have to ask on yahoo...you're not ready. You dont have any sterile instruments, and chances are you will end up with an infection. pay the 30 bucks and have someone who knows what they are doing peirce you...

The biggest ol, rusted ice pick you can find. you should wipe some fecal matter on it before you begin. This is REALLY stupid. And do your parents know about this? Or, are they just as misguided and confused as you appear to be? Someday, you will grow up and want to get a job. When that day arrives, please don't bothering to apply at my shop. You would be representing me.

Yeah, not really a good idea. You may puncture something like your intestine and I'm not being dramatic. Just wait until you can actually go to a professional piercer.
