In a hospital the pay is lower than a nursing home. The work is more. Some hospitals depending what state you are in will have the LPN/RN doing their work a well as CNA work. THe pay is not worth it. You will get experience but some CNAs might be making the same as you. As for a nursing home depending on which home on the 7-3 shift you will be passing meds, treatments, meetings, charting, and doctors order, and dealing with administation. On the 3-11 shift. YOu have fewer meds to pass, fewer treatments to do, Administration is gone and not so many doctors orders. 11-7 you read, pass some meds, talk with the CNAs. My type of shift. 7-3 is lower in pay. 11-7 is the highest. Now if you want you own hours join a agency. The pay is higher and you don't have to deal with the crap that goes on. Plus the 10-20 per hour more is worth the travel and you will alway get work.
