My son is six and a half months old and can't sit without support yet. He has grown out of his infant carrier and was wondering how can I do the shopping with my son? He doesn't like the Snuggie( and I don't like using it either).

My daughter is 1 and doesn't sit up yet. She has a toddler seat in our van because she has outgrown the infant one. I take the infant one and put it in the buggy for her to sit in. I can barely buckle her in so i usually don't. She has low muscle tone so she can't get out. Taking the seat and just using it for sitting in the buggy may be an option for you provided he can't crawl out.

My baby is 9 months old, and he didn't sit up by himself till he was at least 7 months. The only really safe way to shop, if you don't like the snuggie, is a stroller. Almost as soon as my baby did sit up by myself, he was crawling, standing up and letting go... Every baby develops at different speeds. I would rethink sitting up in the cart deal though. That's scary.

Try a sling. http://www.mayawrap.com

Also if he's still comfortable in the infant carseat you can use it anyway, just not for driving in the car. There's no reason it's unsafe for a child who is too long or too heavy for the infant carseat to sit in it in a shopping cart. It's just not safe for driving. Or get one of those shopping carts with the infant seat on it.

give him floor time. a few minutes a day on his belly, he will want to lift his head, in this it strengthens his back muscles. Get a walker and let him spend some time practicing sitting up in that, but not too much time, you will know when he is getting tired. Until he is good at sitting up try shopping at stores that have built in carriers on the carts, if stores don't you may have to resolve yourself to a sitter.

You can use his stroller while your shopping. If there is a basket under him you could put your purchases down below. If it sits semi upright, tie him in there and shop away. Sit him on your lap and soon he will sit up on his own. I blinked and my son sat up unaided, didn't even know it was coming, he was 7 months.

You might try bringing some towels to add as front/side support around him as he sits in the shopping cart seat.

have you tried a sling? Otherwise get one of those shopping cart buddies- strap him in well and he won't fall over. Bring a few extra blankets just in case. It will help him learn to sit up too!

If you have a large sroller, that worked for me. Or you could even stuff blankets around him to help support him.
