I own several iPods (since the very first generation). I currently have 5 iPods. For me, it is a collector thing but I have picked up a few details that may help you.
1. First, it depends on how old your daughter is. If she is only into music and a young age, I would suggest the new iPod shuffle. It holds about 250 songs and she can delight in now knowing what song would come next.

2. If your daughter is older, please consider the iPod nano or iPod with video. The former will hold pictures as well as songs. The latter will also hold videos.

3. If she is of middle school age, the iPod can also serve as a storage device for documents. I use mine all the time to save important documents. Since my iPod is always with me, so are my documents.

Hope this helps and good luck shopping!!!

it depends how many songs she has. i have about 3600 songs so thats why i own an ipod video.

an ipod nano can hold 500, 1000, and 2000 songs.
an ipod video can hold 7500, and 15000 songs. (not quite sure though)

oh, and how old is your daughter? it depends on the age too.

you can check www.apple.com if you want to know more about the ipods.

if you are getting any sort of mp3, get a case and slip it in as soon as you open it. mp3 are delicate and precious items. the ipod video easily gets scratch, but it has a sleek and smooth feel. the new ipod nanos are okay and are more less likely to get scratched.

if you want to know more about other peoples comments, i would point out amazon.com, type in ipod, and read the buyer's comments on the ipod.

I'd go with the iPod Nano. I've got the iPod video myself and it's great, but I don't use half the features on it. I wish now I'd just bought the Nano, which is smaller and cheaper.

I've had no problems with my Ipod Nano. Not the video one, just the basic Nano.

The i-pod Video is a very good gift for christmas and the video plays movies and music.I've had it for 6 months and I love it. To ensure not to break it buy a case for it.

I suggest the 4G nano, it's affordable and looks good. It also stores a lot of music.
