I wouldn't even have thought of playing on a team coached by Bob Knight.
As a matter of fact, my basketball career ended after enduring a year on my high school's freshman team. I hated the emotional and verbal abuse involved in competitive athletics, I'm talking about from teammates and the coach.
Jocks and coaches have no status in my mind; I'll watch them play on TV or occasionally in person, but I don't want anything to do with them.
If I saw a famous pro athlete in public, even one I liked, I'd avoid him like the plague, because he has money and social status and I do not so it would be better for me to avoid him.

Bob Knight did exactly what any passionate coach would have done--get the kid's attention and get in his face to make a point. How many times do you see it in football where a coach hits a kid on his helmet with a roll of playsheets or grabs his facemask and screams in his face?
If the player in the Texas Tech game had a helmet on, Knight would have surely grabbed his facemask and shook him around a little bit. This kid may have been a little shocked at what happened, but he does have to realize he's playing for one of the best coaches ever in college basketball, and this was positive reinforcement in a passionate way.

I think Wayne got a man crush on Bob Knight.
These people who defend Knight............they wouldn't be defending him if it was their kid. It's a sport for crying out loud, no kid / athlete / person should ever be treated that way over a game.

READ the STORY first, you idiot!!
He DIDN'T SLAP HIM!! He didn't "strike" him!!
The kid was bummed out and Bob lifted his face up and told him (basically), "you played great, don't worry about it"
He was ENCOURAGING HIM, you idiot!!
Don't believe everything every lying idiot news person out there says!!
Go to espn.com right now and read the story for yourself!!
