Distriubutive property:
3p-6p-24=0
Combine like terms:
-3p-24=0
Add 24 on both sides:
-3p=24
p=-8
Check:
3(-8)-(6(-8)+24)=0
-24-(-48+24)=0
-24-(-24)=0
-24+24=0
0=0

Edit: Oops. That was an embarrassing mistake. Thank you krazy much for pointing that out. I've corrected the problem now. BTW, you may want to fix the sign on that 8.
