Home monitors are not always accurate. I'd have a few other people you know try it and see if their reading are high too before you start freaking out.
154 over 83 is high blood pressure and a bigger problem than a 101 pulse.
Consider what you have been doing. Have you exercised in the past couple hours, have you drank a lot of caffeine, have you experienced a lot of stress, etc... There are many things that can cause a fast heart rate or high BP.
If you can't pinpoint it, first thing is verify the machine's accuracy. Second, bring it up at your next doctor's appointment. It isn't something where you need to freak out and go to the ER or anything like that. You may have mild hypertention which effects many millions of Americans. And in the worst case scenario, the doctor can give you medication that can control it. And he'll probably reccommend you exercise more. Exercise over time will lower your heart rate and blood pressure.

Pulse is how many times a minute your heart beats. To check the accuracy of the monitor, you can feel for your pulse on wrist or neck (don't use your thumb) and count the beats while looking at a clock for 15 seconds than multiply by 4. That is a manual pulse.
Of course your age plays a huge role in this, but your pulse being 101 is ok unless it usually reads about 50-60. Maybe you are anxious or just got through doing something a little active. So, maybe sit and check again in about 10 minutes. Note what you were doing right before you took it and check again around the same time after doing a similar activity the next few days and compare your readings. Key thing is taking notes and comparing to other readings with similar situations occurring. If drastic change when comparing, than be concerned.

First off where did you check it at? If it was at a store those are not always accurate. Were you still during the test If you were moving around it will be wrong they are to sensitive for you to be moving around. 101 for a resting heart rate is high normal is between 60-80 were you running before the exam? If you were at rest I would say that you have a high resting heart rate which isnt good. Also the norm for a healthy person the top number should not be higher than 130 and the bottom number higher than 80 If you are really worried I would set an appt with your doctor. High pressure could mean a stroke kidney failure and other major medical conditions

Your pulse is a measure of the speed at which your heart is beating. A resting pulse of 101 is elevated and worth further attention. Elevated resting pulse can be a symptom of serious illness or merely a sign that the patient is nervous. You should consult your physician.

Your pulse is how many times your heart beats per minute. For an adult a resting pulse runs between 60-100 beats per minute.
