I went and actually applied for the job today
-- My pay will be $3.50 an hour (Not including tips), And I hear most only get $2.00 - $2.15.

The only problem i'm worried about is not making as much as I would at a regular job, Where I wouldnt be serving tables.

Do the tips I get make up for less salary?

yes the tips make up for the lower slary, it all depends on the type of place yolu apply at, the more expensive the restaraunt the more you will make.

It definitely depends on where you're working. Also, you're probably not going to make as much if you work a breakfast or lunch shift.

Most of the time, you'll make more money at a job waiting tables than you would at a retail job. The big difference, though, is that you're going to be getting your pay in cold, hard cash. It's a lot easier to spend it when you get it in small amounts at the end of every shift, rather than in one big paycheck (at least, that was true for me). When I was a waitress, I felt like I made less money because I spent it so much faster on stupid things. I always had cash in my wallet, so I was always spending it.

Maybe that's just me, though. Good luck with the job search!

The tips can be a lot. Or, almost nothing in a bad restaurant and on slow days. It's one of the hardest jobs there is. There are just too wide a range of restaurants and people to generalize about it.
If you get it, stick it out for six months at least. You'll think it's impossible till you get the hang of it, and then you might actually enjoy it.

The tips do make up for the lack of wages, but you have to really hustle to make up that difference.

Waitressing is not for everyone, you have to be a real go getter to make any kind of real money. And as the others have said it depends on the type of restaurant, the shift that you work, and the location.

If you go for it good luck to you, and don't forget to tip your busboys and dishwashers, they can help or hinder your money making.

It isn't a great dependable job. Some days it gets slow, other times customers don't tip. You never have a set schedule.
