You look at the number in the hundredths place. If it is 5 or more then you round the tenths place one higher.

as you go farther right from the decimal point, the value of that digit becomes lesser. tenths is the place to the immediate right of the decimal point so it's value is higher than the numbers succeeding it.

i.e. for 0.430987, 4 has bigger value than 9 and 7
