Nice.

Seriously though, the population problem is not as simple as space for people to live on. People also require arable land to grow their food, access to clean water to drink, and other resources.

We could plunk the teeming masses of India or China into the open spaces of northern Canada or the Sahara, but if that land can't support agriculture and has only a limited amount of water, it won't do them very much good.

Over-population has always been a problem- not space wise but competition over resources.
Look at Rapa Nui in the 16th and 17th century (also known as Easter Island). There population was a few thousand people but because of the making Moai they deforrested the area and exhausted their resources so heavily that the population and environment were distroyed.

No, it isn't...only certain areas are overpopulated...look at all the space in Canada, and Alaska. If you wanna talk about resources Canada and Alaska are teeming with oil, and water...tourism is also a method of sustaining economy. There is also, forestry and mining available...not to mention wind power! The world is not overpopulated...countries are just too closed to immigration, and other countries are too uneducated in methods of birth control. People need to learn how to share the Earth...that is why some places are too overpopulated.
