Leading research shows that at about 3 months the baby can begin to see shadows and shapes more clearly. However, their eye sight isn't completely developed until they are about 9 months, depending on the baby.

Newborn babies can have good eyesight, but they cannot interpret much of what they see.

In some areas, a newborn baby delivered in hospital, will have their eyes treated at birth with some eyedrops. These eyedrops can be very strong and might affect the baby for a week or so.

If you are asking because you have a new baby, please ask this question to a nurse or doctor. If you feel there is any problem, maybe you are noticing behaviour that could be eyesight related, or maybe something else completely. It is best to have someone experienced give you advice.
