The 4 strokes are more durable. I’m old enough to remember when some of the first 4 strokes came out.
They were real sluggish on the lower end and I used to mop up when I raced my Suzuki RM125 against them.
That has all changed, the newer 4 strokes rock.
Also, noise is becoming more of an issue as housing developments and such are sprouting up closer to race tracks.
The cops in my area are starting to write more tickets for excessive noise on street bikes.

try to be sure my question: What do you 4-stroke airborne dirt and dirt motorcycle fanatics think of approximately this quote? it particularly is still open to grant an answer. It relies upon on what you're making use of it for. in case you will race MX, greater desirable get a 4 stroke. 2-strokes are ineffective. rules on gas and a smaller engine length takes 2-strokes out of the contest. so some distance as enduro racing, KTM nevertheless makes a 2 hundred, 250, and 3 hundred cc huge ratio 2-stroke engine. right this is the base line: 2-strokes (+) liter, less complicated to artwork on at abode, awsome capability at severe rpm's (-) can't compete with a 4-stroke for the checkered flag with the aid of AMA's regulations on 2-strokes and the capability isn't so great at decrease rpm's. 4-strokes (+) soft and stable capability during all rpm's, they have domination over 2-strokes on the music returned with the aid of rules (-) heavier, greater complicated engine than the user-friendly 2-stroke. i'm somewhat prepared on 2-strokes with the aid of fact I even have consistently ridden one. a number of my acquaintances have long previous to 4-strokes yet in addition they had to bypass from a 300cc to a 450cc to maintain up. you purely ought to bypass attempt force the motorcycles which you have an interest in, in case you have a chum or relative with the comparable motorcycle ask them in case you are able to experience it for an afternoon. i admire the Idaho mountains, 2-strokes are awsome at hill mountain climbing. wish this permits.

everyone is right about one thing - it is an environmental problem. BUT 2 strokes aren't done yet, they're just getting too expensive to manufacture so that they will get past EPA requirements. there are still a few around in the high end of price and performance to fill a special spot, especially in the boat motor area.

Four strokes have better emissions, more usable powerband, more torque, no gas/oil mixing, and are less susceptible to altitude changes.

2-strokes are dirt cheap (because nobody wants them anymore) and lighter, but the logical advantages of 4-strokes still outweigh them.
