The people that are excited for the Wii are probably the same ones that were excited for the Power Glove.

The Wii WILL have online play. And why couldn't you use rechargable batteries if you wanted in the controller?
The Wii will be graphically the weakest of the 3 systems. Everyone knows that. It's very, very old news, yet some people seem to be offended that Nintendo would release a system that didn't wow them graphically, as if Nintendo owed them something. Those people are idiots.
The Wii, like the DS, will allow people to play games in new ways. Meanwhile, with the 360/PS3 you'll be playing the same old crap, only it will look better (and let's not forget the motion sensing controller Sony ripped off of Nintendo) and you'll be paying far more for it.
It all comes down to price and what kinds of games you want. If all you care about are graphics, then by all means, pay $500/$600 for a PS3... plus $50 for another controller and $60 per game (and don't forget a PS2 memory card adaptor for $15 if you want to play your old PSX/PS2 games... assuming they even run). And don't forget the HDTV. If you don't have one of those you'll need one to get the most out of the system, so that's another $800-$1000 right there.
You can see why people are interested in the Wii. It doesn't require them to buy a new television, it gurantees them some of the best first party titles available, the games will cost less and they will play in a way that no other console's games can. Plus it's dirt cheap compared to the outrageous PS3 price tag.
But I have a feeling you're a troll based on your post, so none of this probably matters to you.

A better question is, "why are people so excited for the Playstation 3?" Both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are the same old revamped crap that we've seen for three generations now. Shinier graphics do nothing to improve how fun or enjoyable games are. You want pretty moving pictures? Go see a movie instead of wasting $600 on a console. You want a console that's actually doing something to try to increase how enjoyable games are? Buy a Wii.

Why are people excited about PS3 and XBox 360? They are practically the same thing! Both are good consoles that will offer some good games, but they don't appeal me as much as Wii. No DVD player? You probably have one at home. Besides, who says it won't play them? It will be able to in the future. And on the term of batteries, I've heard PS3's control has 'em built in, and once they run out, you have to buy a new control. Rechargeable batteries are not so expensive anyways. Online multiplayer Is not ready yet, which is a shame, I give you that. Graphics? If I wanted to see something lifelike, I'd look at myself in the mirror all day. Granted, graphics make a game look good, but if a story and gameplay suck, why bother playing it? Lastly, the games stink? I only need to but one of the launch title games, most of which seem good, to be happy: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. And so, that is why I'm excited about Wii.

lets see, have you read about the wii. im serious any one ive talked too like the idea. NINTENDOs change trying too make gamers happ. i like the idea. u may say its nintendo fan bouys but look at the facts.
compare this. when the PS3 reserves came out and the Wii reservers came out. it took less time for the wiis presells, to sell out than the ps3's, and nintendo has 2-3 more systems on launch than ps3's.
look at the NDS. when it first came out people thought the same thing. the page attached has the top selling systems and games in japan.
atleast some one is changeing the gaming industry. im sick of consokle after console being a sit down and push buttons. y do uy think my current console chioce is a DDR machine u actuall have to move, and i get one hell of a work out.
