What's your opinion for the best goalie performance in the playoffs? My vote definately goes to Jean Sebastian-Giguere of The Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the Western Conference Quarterfinals in 2003, he was basically a wall against a high powered Red Wings team.

Easy there habitant... I'm not a Ducks or a Giguere fan, and I'm talking about a single playoff run (not several years worth), Roy was great when he won cups but Giguere won all of those playoff series by himself. He shut down a powerhouse playoff team i n Detroit and almost stole a cup on the worst seed from the West.

a million) In different words no longer each team has an good goalie, which team ought to you notice yanking their goalie if the team plus goalie have a piss-detrimental overall performance in interest one? Flyers and Warshington 2) Are you partial to the lottery? I for one am no longer reason it robbed the Flyers from getting Patrick Kane. i'm no longer the two it is not in all threat honest. 3) additionally to the followers who have not got their team in the playoffs who do you want to work out long gone and who do you wish your team signs and indicators? i'm hoping the celebs will sign some youthful defensiveman and a respectable backup goalie. BQ: If the Blackhawks make it to the SCF and lose can or no longer it particularly is claimed good that Hossa is a jinx in simple terms like Ty Conklin? i assume time will tell. 2 cases would not rather make a jinx yet whilst it occurs a third time you consistent with threat directly to something.

I would have to say Mike Richter.

Richter being the best to perform in the playoffs: Well, playing for a team that had not won a Stanley Cup in 54 years and of all places in New York City. The pressure must have been unbelievable and anyone who has ever played goal knows you would have to have ice in your veins. The Eastern Conference finals going to game 7 at MSG in overtime. He faces a penalty shot in the series against the Canucks, in Vancouver against no other than the Russian Rocket Pavel Bure and blanks him, which I think was a huge turning point in the series.

Every year has a different goalie guiding a team threw the playoffs. That is the key to making it far.
Ward was incredible last year and Kipper the year before.
But as for the best performance, i would have to agree Patrick Roy in 1993. He was simply amazing. The Canadiens had no business being in the finals, nor even winning the cup. But with him in net they made it look easy. But than again, he was the King in his rookie year as well.. Simply remarkable.

Giguere doesn't even come close to what Patrick Roy has done in his playoffs, and the big thing is that Roy has won 4 Stanley cup to Giguere 0 cup's.

anybody in here would pick Patrick Roy over Giguere even any other goalie to be your number one. Best goalie of all time.you must be all hyped cause of the great year he is having, well he is getting allot i mean allot of help in his own end with Pronger and Niedermayer and others, so don't get to far ahead of yourself OK, OK.

When the very unlikely Minnesota North Stars faced off against the soon-to-be potent Pittsburgh Penguins in '91, they had relied very much on a unknown goalie at that time - Jon Casey. He seemed to have come out of nowhere for that year's Playoffs, like a John Druce or Steve Webb (Remember that guy who played for the Islanders a few years back?).

Although game 6 was a total blowout, Casey went the distance through four Playoff rounds to lead them to Mario Lemieux and company. The '91 Pittsburgh Penguins had an excellent squad of players: Lemieux, Recchi, Mullen, Francis, Barrasso, Samuelson, among others. I thought it was a noteworthy performance, despite Casey being unable to repeat it thanks to Norm Green's ownership decisions.ㅇ

Dawn of time
Clint Benedict--4 SOs in 27/8 and the Mtl Maroons lost a heartbreaker 2-1 in best-of-five final to the Rangers.

Original Six
Terry Sawchuk 1952--4 shutouts in 8 GP. Two sweeps to win Cup for Detroit.

Post-expansion
And I'll toss an overlooked one at people to fuel debate...Kolzig in 1998 had a .941 save pct in carrying a very average Caps team to the Final. Giggy was sensational and I can see your argument has validity, but you know the tired young people are going to throw Roys' 1993 10 OT wins back at us.

I will say one thing, Giggy benefited from the loose enforcement on equipment rules and you saw how he struggled until last season after the NHL cracked down on lacrosse-type shoulder pads.

How about Arturs Irbe back in 2002 I believe. He forced the Canes into the finals with his great play.

Every spring, there's one goalie that carries his team to a place it really couldn't have unless it was for him. That is something the Red Wings have needed, but kept running into they thing they needed on their team.

I think it is hard to pin point one best goalie performance in the playoffs due to this trend that every spring a goalie does somethign that is great. Talk all you want about great offenses, they still have to put the puck by the keeper- if a keeper is playing outside his mind, game over.

Good question though.
