how do i get the brown stains off of my steam iron?

ive tried cleaner, ive tried finger nail polish remover....whats the best?

spray the iron while hot with starch, then scrape it off.

I use a bar of Ivory soap. When the iron is hot you rub the soap all over it, then run it under the faucet. It has always worked for me.
