From Houston, probably they went from Laredo to Nuevo Laredo, there's also a crossing from El Paso to Juarez. Both are for the more adventursome types. My sister goes every year to Yuma and crosses into Mexicalli. It is much safer and they cater to the snow birds (older folks) and gringoes who are there specifically for cheap docs and meds. Very sorry to hear of your friend's losses. I hope she can heal herself from that.

I go to Nuevo Laredo I would buy combivert and atrovent albuterol foe emphysema this is most likely what you will need. The US side would only let me bring a few inhalers. They were really cheep but the price has gone up also it's good to have the prescription with you. You can buy meds. at any border town I would hit Laredo. Sam.s club in Hou. has deals try them.
