our Godparents are with us for life -can't undo so choose wisely. their role is to help the parents in raising the child in their particular faith. in the old days the godparents were also the legal gaurdians should something happen - not so today but.... thei role is to help foster the child's relationship with God and teach them about daith and their denomination. they are also to support and guide the parents in matters of faith.

Call them whatever you want to. The idea of "godparents" that involves asking someone you trust to look after your children if something happens to you is just good common sense. The idea of "godparents" that they'd raise the kids in your own religion is kinda silly. And just calling them "godparents" (which is a common term) doesn't mean belief in a god any more than saying goodbye does (go look up the origins of the word). Peace.

Godparents are people who are selected to guide a child throughout their life and lead them down the right path and show a good example.
