if you mean random checks that you have no money to cover the answer is no.... And if you do in most states you will go to jail.. I did this after they decided to give me a checking account when i was 18. I had no money and wrote checks and got charged with writing dishonored checks and spent 28 days in jail and had to pay it all back! on top of that i ****** my credit so bad. I am still working to fix it. I wrote a bad check at subway for 3.00 and i had to pay 206.00 before it was all done wit. You have to pay lawyer fees too ontop of that. I couldn't get another checking account for a long time. and now i am stuck with wells Fargo opportunity checking and i have to pay for it. Plus they return checks if i am .01 short. It sucks. And I cant write checks any where cause they are all run off the same check systems. Like cause i wrote a bad one at olive garden or walmart i cant write one even now at say target. It may seem like a quick answer for cash but it is completely stupid in the long run.

A cheque is a promise to pay. When you write a cheque to someone you are guaranteeing the funds will be available.
If you don't have any money in your account and you have overdraft protection then you will owe the bank for that amount (a negative balance). Overdraft interest charged by the banks is very high.
If you don't have overdraft protection then the person you wrote the cheque to will have it returned to them NSF (insufficient funds). That also costs the person writing the cheque and cashing it. And they will probably be very, very upset.

Yes. Overdrafting an account depends on how much money you have in your account, not how many checks you have left. If you do not have enough money in the account to cover the check, then you have overdrafted you account.
