You were 100% ripped off. I would go to the Small Claims Court over this - it costs £50 for the case and you will probably win back your £160 from them so you gat a net recovery of £110 which is well worth it.

Try the Small Claims court, Citizens Advice and Trading Standards.
If you were expecting to pay £20 and the final bill was £160 then Trading Standards is the best bet.
If the box says 'internal modem' and its been fitted expternally then you probably have a case.
Good luck!

What????? A modem (56k) should cost you about £20 for external one. A broadband one would be £40 absolute max!! I dont believe for a second they should be charging you between £120-£140 for labour as its a 2 min job. An external one is even easier as all they would have to do is plug it in to the back of your pc and connect a power supply. 30 secs max for that.

Contact your local trading standards office and report this shady company.

If you can afford it.. go for it.. I hate those bastards who rip people off.. I hope that you went to his boss... I hope that you went to the corporate Headquarters.. I do not know if you have in England a Better Business Bureau as we have in the U.S... BUT if you have anything similar.. report it there also

Most of the cost of that will have been for the callout and return of your machine, they came out to your house, took the machine away, figured out what was wrong, repaired it and brought it back - what were you expecting to get charged £20?

yeah... post his name or company name and lets all keep on posting it,day in day out.... he'll soon be gone. Until then,i'm afraid your doomed and money badly spent, but a good lesson learned ok.

well post the name and company on here so we can all have a moan at him lol

you could write to watchdog, if they have had other complaints about them they will investigate it

http://www.bbc.co.uk/consumer/tv_and_radio/watchdog/contact_index.shtml

you could take them to small claims court, it doesnt cost much

http://www.bbc.co.uk/crime/law/smallclaimscourt.shtml

make sure you keep all the info and receipts
