I swear this does work! I saw this on Oprah many, many years ago by a Dr named Nels or something like that. He said if you want to get pregnant eat yams on the day you try, because yams contains estrogen. And take Robitussin about an hour before because it thins the mucus making it easier for the sperm to reach its destination. I couldn't get pregnant for 10 years I tried this and I got pregnant within 3 months.

Robitussin thins out all of the mucus in your body. You want your Cervical mucus to be watery and stretchy exactly like eggwhites. The thicker CM that is more pasty or milky is too thick for sperm to travel thru. Not that it can't happen, but it makes it harder for them. I tried it a couple times...not really sure if it helped or not...not pregnant yet. I'm on a fertility drug called Clomid that can cause little or no CM...so some docs say to try out the robitussin...others don't think it makes a difference. The robitussin will supposedly just make your thicker CM thin out a little so the sperm can move easier. The discharge when aroused is different apparantley. You really should buy the book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Its awesome and tells you more then you can ever imagine...esp about the CM. Good Luck!

RE:
Robitussin and cervical mucus?
I have read that consuming Robitussin thins cervical mucus which improves fertility. But the fertile mucus should be sticky instead of watery? I am confused why Robitussin helps then?
Also is the discharge when a woman is aroused different from cervical mucus? How does the discharge help in...

Robitussin contains a ingrediant that thins mucus in the body hence it should thin cervical mucus. I have seen it on a few lists of things you can try to concieve. It should be taken according to directions & never for mre than 5 days in a row. As well it is always a good idea to ask your OB or doctor first.

Robitussin (the kind that is an expectorant ONLY) does thin cervical mucous. It's purpose, of course, is to thin the mucous in your lungs so it's easier to cough up, but the side effect is that it thins all the mucous your body produces.
Fertile quality mucous is not sticky (nor is it watery.) "Egg white" is the most fertile mucous and it's stretchy but not sticky. The really sticky stuff is produced at other stages of the cycle and actually impedes the passage of sperm. Some women don't produce egg-white quality mucous at all and their most fertile mucous is more lotiony... if it's thick then Robitussin can help thin it out a little to facilitate the passage of sperm. Women who produce egg-white mucous wouldn't need to use it at all.
Vaginal discharge increases upon arousal and is different than cervical mucous. As far as I know, it doesn't play a role in conception (except for the fact that it facilitates sex!)

robitussin does thin cm. for women with sticky or not alot of cm that is a good thing. make sure you get it with the only active ingredient as guaissen(sp?) the discharge from arousal is different from cervical mucus. the fertile discharge helps transport the sperm to your fallopian tube and then to the egg. without it the sperm cannot get to the egg.
