You need to realize that there have always been white people on your side. Many white people spoke out against slavery back then. The civil war was fought to help bring an end to it. Hundreds of thousands of white people fought and died to bring freedom to the slaves. I'm aware of the crimes that have been committed against black people but these were the actions of a small minority of backwards thinking whites.
Consider this, a black man can walk through almost any white community in the country and be perfectly safe. A white guy walking through a black neighborhood doesn't feel as safe. At least this is true where I live, maybe not everywhere.
I'm a white guy and I can honestly say that of all the black people I've met and talked with there was only one that I didn't like. We didn't automatically hate each other because of racial bigotry.
I'm guessing that you never had a white man beat you and force you to work the fields so this grudge is not yours to hold. It is good to remember the past so we learn from it and do not repeat our mistakes. Mistakes like racism.

How is that discussions of slavery always make it out to be a big white machine and mention nothing of the "suppliers" in Africa who traded away their brethren? That's just one iota. What about the ENTIRE history of the human race? Everything that has been built, that still survives, was built by slaves..pyramids, great wall etc. Let's not forget the "indentured servants" that were WHITE that were in the colonies first! Where are their ACLU representatives?

Stop being a victim.

I'm a 2nd generation Irishman and it wasn't even 60 years ago that signs were in storefronts saying, "Irish Need Not Apply". If you ever see INNA in old old pictures, that's what it means. You don't see us looking for handouts, affirmative action or reparations of any kind, do you? Get on with your life.

No no no. Hatred does not help the person who's hating. Look to the future. Black people aren't slaves now. Why, black people have been mayors of large cities! A black man was the King of Pop in 1984! Now, you can have money and get rich too -- just get an MBA degree and go to work.

No I don't think so. If black people were to hate white people, I think at this point it would have nothing to do with slavery. I wasn't a slave. And no white person I could ever come across would have been a slave master. So, that wouldn't be something I would hold against them.

Were you ever a slave? Were you ever beaten and exploited by a rich white person? I ask because I have never owned a slave. I have never beaten or exploited anyone and I am not rich. I have done nothing to hurt you or your family and yet my skin is white. If I were to see you about to be hurt, I would still do everything I could to save you, in spite of the fact that I am white. Why should you hate me and others like me for a genetic quality alone?

Delve a little deeper into history and you will find that there were many white people that hated the institution of slavery, did everything they could to make it illegal and helped runaway slaves in the process. There was a book that was published in 1852, called "Uncle Tom's Cabin". It helped to shed some light on the suffering of slaves and fueled the abolitionist movement. It was written by a white person who hated slavery. Did you know that there were white people who helped with the Underground Railroad? There were also white people who marched in protest with their black brothers and sisters during the Civil Rights movement (my father was one of them). I'm not saying that no white people were bad. There were lots of bad ones. (And still are!) Slaves were beaten by sadistic "masters" all the time. They were used, abused, sold away from their families and deprived of their very humanity. But not every white person that has ever lived has been like this, hence the previous examples.

People don't choose the race they're born into. They do choose how to act. Most people, black and white, choose to act like good, decent, loving people. There are others who choose not to, who let hate corrupt them. Allowing hate to corrupt is an ugly thing. Choosing to hate a person based solely on skin color and the sins of a few people with that skin color is to become a racist yourself. It goes both ways.

Don't look for an exuse. Come on! Don't you see this is what's holding black people back. Come on I know you can do better than that! No other race is sitting down resurrecting stuff from way back trying to use it as an exuse! Come on I'm black but that idea is just pathetic. You are not pathetic but this idea of hating people for something their ancestors did, is just wrong. It angers "them" and gets "us" nowhere. I wish black people could see this....I have a Dream...That one day black people will take advantage of their plentiful academic oppurtunities and stop getting mad over the history book.

P.S- It's with love I say this to you, try not to hate without just reason for doing so.

Ok YOU were never a slave. So blaming white people today who never owned slaves is a racist statement. You place responsibilty for the actions of people who are long dead on people today based on the color of there skin. It is just as evil as the people who owned slaves.Your a racist. Slavery existed in every culture on every continent for 10,000 years. It was an exepted practice and it is still practiced in africa by africans on africans to this day.
It was Christian white people who felt it was evil and there black freinds who they supported, who ended slavery who rose up and fought slavery in the courts it was made illegal for the first time in 10,000 years of human history in europe by white people the same white christians fought for its end in the united states from the start of the united states until the civil war. Slavery was made illegal by white people who felt the color of people skin did not matter. Slavery was invented in africa. So if you want to be petty there you go.
what a racist comment and an ignorant statement.

I would really truly like to say yes to this question in particular BUT it's a new era and we can't keep blaiming white people for what their ancestors did and the fact that they may not be fully educated on Black History. We just have to move on with our lives....we can't dwell or hope for revenge on something that happened a little more than a century ago. But I will say this...SOMEwhite people are still in that ignorant state of mind and are somewhat intimidated by us. We can't hate them for that! We are coming up in the world and are getting involved in the community and in the country. For an example....look at Barack Obama he's also trying to make a difference.

That is absurd. That was such a long time ago, but we need to remember our history so it is not repeated. Did you know that a lot of slaves escape slavery by running to Canada where good white folks treated them as equals. Plus, you have to remember that not all white people were slave owners, and a lot of white slave owners were decent to there slaves, like my great-grandparents slave owners were really decent people and a lot of our children are named of our slave owner. Let's try and remember the lesson Martin Luther King Jr. tried to teach both black and white.

We live in a more advanced world today than back then, I dont think that It is right to hate just because they are white, black, or anything else. Just because of what happened a long time ago.
