It has to come from somewhere, And if not how do you demonstrate to your children equality? Do you consider things like MLK, and the slave trade to be "black history," or do you introduce it to your children as American history?

I teach my children from a biblical standpoint emphasising that all people are precious. I teach them that they are greater or better than no one and that no one is greater or better than them. Always be willing to lay down your life (rights, time, comfort, etc...) for others. People are just that important no matter the financial status, race, or creed.

I have no doubt that children will learn from there parents and will carry that attitude withem.

Education is the key and while history does teach us of our past wrongs you need to remeber that only the victors write the history books.

What is more incideous is Nationalism.

Nationalism started WW1 and 2, in fact behind most wars are the 2 evils Nationalism and economics.

Whilst Americans are keen not to be seen as racist there is no doubt that the Nationalistic jingoisms indicate that Americans see everyone else as inferior which is even worse.

And then they wonder why they attacked!

We must have come a long way when you consider that Will Smith is a great fun actor first and formost before any racial identification. Teach black history as a terrible thing that should never be repeated.

I'm really hoping I read this question wrong!

Anyways...slavery is Black History...whites can't claim everything you know. Children become racist when they hear their parents say something about another race and they start to become rascist also. Sometimes racism can be considered a learned behavior. They way to teach children equlity is to let them see how you interact with other races and that you treat everyone equally and with respect.

I think kids do learn by seeing how their parents react to people. That being said though, you can have a racist parent and not be racist yourself. My dad is very racist. I think his extreme thinking though, pushed my brother and I to the other end. We both are very open minded and fair. We see everyone as equals. There are good and bad people in every race and we judge each person on their merits not on the color of their skin. I have a five year old son and I stress to him that everyone is alike and that skin color is like hair color or eye color. It makes no difference on the kind of person you are. I have a degree in history and I have never viewed anything as "black history". To me it is fascinating to look at history and try to learn from our mistakes it is all American history.

No I don't teach my children to be racist. I don't explain it as any sort of history. I use slavery to teach my kids how cruel and mean man can be to his brother. We have also talked about the fact that slavery still exists and we go over ways that the good guys can help those people. My kids don't see race although they are aware some people do.

Yes, you teach your child to be a racist.

I consider such things to be a part of American History. Yes, it is black history but I think that it's more "American Black History". If that makes sense.

Yes, you can 'teach' your kids to be racist. When KKK members have children they 'teach' them that blacks are evil and all that crap.
Sociologically speaking, you can also 'teach' your kids to be racists. There are many form of racism. One of them is called 'adversive racism'. This means that one isn't obvious about their dislike of another race, but they show it in small ways. Like when I black gentleman gets on an elevator and a woman clutches her purse closer to her.
The best way to demostrate equality is to just do that. If you aren't racist, then chances are your kids wont be, either. Kids pick up on stuff from watching parents, (especially when the parent isn't looking). This is how a majority of socialization occurrs through the watch and learn process.
I hope this was helpful!

Oh boy, I don't get it are we all equal or should we "celebrate diversity" Children know that there are differences between black people and white people just like they know the differences between boys and girls. The problem is when we try to ignore our diversity. Is segregation wrong? Its natural in every species on this planet but ours. Does that make me racist? Take the hate out of it and it make sense. Forced segregation with inequality is wrong, but the schools of the south are still segregated because the people want them that way. No I don't teach my child to hate, but I do teach him the differences he will find in people.

I show them. Racism is not a family value.

February is American History Month, with a focus on the contributions Black americans have given to us.

But we do not for what the Spanish/Hispanic/Latinos have doen, as i save that for May.

Not do I forget about what the Irish did, reserving March for that one

toddlers are actually not certainly racist, your son grew to become into purely pointing out the glaring and skill no offence with the aid of fact he his now noticing the ameliorations interior the international around him, if it particularly is going to become a ordinary subject do no longer make a controversy of it yet tactfully clarify that its no longer consistently useful to indicate the colour of people's pores and skin till he's familiar with the guy ok, in case you think of he's going to declare something to somebody attempt and distract him.
