According to the Bible it is only up to God to judge a persons worthiness for eternal life, but it instructs us that we should practice discernment toward people. We are not to judge their worth as people, but we are to judge the fruit which they produce in their lives whether it is good or bad. We are instructed to accept the good and reject the bad fruit, not the good or bad people. All of us are a complex mixture of both elements.

Actually (if you're speaking in terms of the Bible) God isn't the only person allowed to judge. The whole "judge not" gets cut off before the rest of the verse. What the Bible says is "judge not or you'll be judged right back". In other words, don't dish it out if you can't take it back. This however, does not mean that you're not allowed to judge. It means that you shouldn't condemn people hypocritically. Judgment should be honest, true and hold to a standard.

I am guilty of judging people based on their spelling, grammar and punctuation. Or lack thereof.
