A fuse is a safety device that is designed to melt, or blow, when a specified amount of current is passed through it. This protects an electric circuit from excessive current, consisting of or containing a metal element that melts when current exceeds a specific amperage, thereby opening the circuit. Without fuses or circuit breakers the wiring would overheat and be a potential fire hazard.

You never know when an accident/carelessness is going to happen. If the 2 main wires short (touch together) current WILL run from one side to the other.. VERY quickly.

This SHORT will heat up.. to the point where it will quickly turn any flamable material... oh.. like the walls in your house into kindling.

The idea of a circuit breaker/fuse is to prevent this. It keeps you safe by tripping the circuit when it is overloaded (or shorted).

BREAKER SWITCHES WORK JUST AS WELL BUT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THAT OPTION FUSES ARE VERY NECESSARY IN YOUR HOME, JUST IN CASE OF A POWER OVERLOAD THAT COULD MELT YOUR WIRES AND CAUSE A HOUSE FIRE. THE FUSE BOX AND BREAKER BOX ACTS LIKE A SERGE PROTECTOR ON YOUR COMPUTER.
