well you probably aciddently removed an important system file of some sort and need a WINDOWS XP DISC.if you have one it should have been the disc that came with your newly bought system.if not go to a circuit city or somewhere and buy one.if you do have one press the button on the cpu which is not the screen but the other part of your system that is connected to the screen. wait a few seconds then press the same button after it is turned OFF and that you are certain that the light is is not bright and that it has dissapeared.ok now turn the button on where IT IS BRIGHT and is on.then it should say the name of your computer system and when it is doing so press and hold the ESC button until another screen pops up when it does it should give you the option to either boot the system through your hard drive or your cd rom drive you want the CD rom option.after choosing that wait a few seconds and press F5.just follow the instructions but when you get to any options while in the screen select the REFORMAT DRIVE option and wait oh about 20 minutes or so after that 20 minutes or how ever long it takes just follow the system settings set up wizard.well hope this works for you

Hi, been a techie for a long time - and there are a lot of things that could cause what you've described and some addition to your question would help greatly:
Is this a 'software restart'? I.E. does the computer run through its normal shutdown procedure, then follow it with the normal restart or startup procedure?
Is this a 'hard restart'? I.E. does the computer simply shut off, like you had powered it down by unplugging or turning off power in some way (power strip counts)?
Does the system exhibit some error message or something bizarre looking then restart?
What Operating System? Knowing the OS would help a lot - XP, Windows 98, MacOS...?
The basic routine would be to first check the power connections, next run a virus scan/ad ware blocker - then start more detailed diagnostics...
Happy if I can help you out, if you can provide more info...

Fingers crossed the fan is blocked with dust so its overheating; thats easy to fix. Get a can of compressed air. Switch off and unplug. Take off the side of the case. Use very short bursts of air to clean out the case, use a cylinder vac to hoover it out. This wants doing at least once a year.
Otherwise it could be a loose connection somewhere. Try pushing all the cables in. Or it could be a dodgy power supply.
Anything other than that is outside my limited knowledge!

You have a virus. Or the power cord is loose.
EDITED ONE HOUR LATER:
I am not an idiot. I had that virus before. It is annoying. The only way I could get rid of it was reformating. It says Computer will restart in *countdown* and if are working on something you might not notice the window popping up.
I use laptops (I'm actually on one and burning movies with the other right now) And the only way I ever overheated them was when I took them to bed and the blanket covered the fan. And IF you're using a laptop you'll KNOW it's overheating it will burn your legs and then just turn off. IT WILL NOT START ON IT'S OWN.
If its a heating problem it will error and turn off and then your hardrive is toast. You can turn it back on but it will shut itself off again. I KNOW this because my husband works on computers and I help him. We had this problem when we were trying to reformat a HP Pavillion Desktop.. What a piece of crap.

Check the event log, people always waste time and money ripping out hardware before bothering to check it.
Click start then run and type eventvwr and then ok.
