I don't think it will ever be legalized in all 50 states because the government can't figure out a way to get every tax they feel inclined to impose.
If pot is legal to smoke then everyone will be growing their own. Can't tax what you don't know about.Only monies collected on homegrown will be thru fines imposed on the smoker after the consumption and that's only if the smoker is dumb enough to go out while stoned and get caught doing something stupid.

In a way I can't help but feel like they may as well legalize it and save us all alot of tax dollars wasted on the war on drugs.
But then on the other hand I really would be uncomfortable going into surgery wondering what my surgeon had to smoke a few minutes before.Or the judge that was trying my lawsuit.Or my kids teachers. And lets not forget the guys building the skyscrapers or the bridges we drive on or the ones working in the nuclear powerhouses.Especially not those guys!Do you really want Homer Simpson sitting in front of the destruct button with a big doobie in his mouth nodding off?
We all want a little escape from reality. We just don't think about everyone wanting to escape at the same time or the consequences when they do so.

Why would you want to legalize a plant that grows like a weed, in incredible variety, and is part of the hemp family who usage and deployment would help save the world, and it is less habit forming then television, but without commercials and with enjoyment. Why would we legalize that? We legalize and then pay for Prozac, tobacco, coffee, sugar...... while rendering over half the world to destitution and now even desperation and we all walk around like we are on drugs, almost unaware but not quite.

There is a lot of fluff and foolish candor on this site and in media in general so I though it was time to start speaking more frankly, if it bothers you let me know and if it doesn't, let every one know. It is time to start putting the underlying facts on the table.

Yes. Federal and State law make it illegal to grow marijuana. Some states, such as California, allow the growth of medical marijuana by patients and care-givers. However, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the Federal government may enforce Federal laws against the growth of marijuana, even if a State allows it for medical purposes. Because Federal law trumps State law, it is illegal to grow marijuana anywhere in America. Additionally, possession of marijuana seeds are illegal.
The penalties for growing marijuana depend on whether you are charged under Federal or State law. Growing marijuana is a felony under Federal law. Penalties will vary according to the amount of marijuana that is found growing, measured by weight. Fines can range from $250,000 to $4,000,000. Incarceration can range from 5 to 40 years. Penalties are increased if marijuana is grown within 1,000 feet of a school or other specified area.
State Penalties: Generally, State laws on growing marijuana are less severe than Federal laws. Penalties will vary from State to State. Like Federal penalties, State penalties will depend on the amount of marijuana being grown. In some states, such as Washington, growing marijuana may be a misdemeanor, while in most states, it is a felony. States that allow the growth of medical marijuana have no penalties patients or care-givers.

I'll give you my opinion on it. I think pot is a drug that alters your perception of reality. I don't see it as particularly dangerous especially when compared to other legal items such as alcohol. I think it should be regulated much like alcohol is today. It should be for persons over 18 unless required for medicinal purposes. It should be regulated such that persons wishing to consume the drug in private or in a "pot bar" or the like should be free to do so at their own discretion. However, if you drive stoned, you go to jail. You smoke around my kids, you get fined. You smoke on the job, you get fired. You get stoned at school -- suspension. That seems fair to me and would increase the taxes brought in, reduce the costs to the consumer, free up the police and the courts and reduce the danger of smoking something that has been treated with unknown pesticides and other chemicals -- not to mention the lack of sanitary conditions.

Coffee is my drug of choice, but I favor legalization. Marijuana wasn't even illegal in the US until 1937. Certainly, some would abuse pot, but most would be fine. Humans have been using pot for thousands of years, and will continue

Yes.
For everyone.
Because as adults, we should have the choice to decide what we put in our bodies as long as we are not harming others.

It IS hard to be a productive human being while high; that's why I don't indulge while working, before working, or driving.
It's also hard to be productive when drunk, or when you have to go outside every 1/2 hour for a cigarette.

I FEEL LIKE IT SHOULD BE LEGALIZED. IF THE GOVERNMENT REALLY WANTED TO THEY COULD MAKE MONEY OFF OF IT. SOME PEOPLE PROBABLY WOULDN'T BE HAPPY WITH THE PRICES THOUGH. THEY NEED TO BECAUSE THE PEOPLE ARE GOING TO KEEP BUYING AND SELLING IT EVEN IF THEY DON'T MAKE IT LEGAL! A LOT OF PEOPLE DO BENEFIT FROM IT, YOU KNOW.
