Strictly speaking in the financial sense, it's not about being rich, it's about financial independence. That is when your passive (non-working) income is greater than your expenses. You only have to work if you want to.
The best way to achieve this is reducing your expenses, and increasing passive income.

Surveys have consistently shown that most people would consider themselves "rich" if they were making about 1 1/2 times whatever they are making when asked.

This is absolutely going to vary person-to-person, however, you are never rich if you don't have friends and family who love you :)

What would it take to consider myself wealthy, financially? Enough money to not have to work.
